Volkswagen released Microbus of the 21st century

Volkswagen has introduced electric concept car Budd-e, which the automaker is positioned as «Microbus of the 21st century” (original Microbus was produced in the 60s). The premiere was held at the CES Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The basis of the prototype went to a new modular architecture MEB, designed specifically for electric vehicles and rechargeable hybrids.
The concept is LED headlamps, 21-inch aluminum wheels and solar panels on the roof. Vehicle functions are managed through three large touch screens, as well as through gestures.

In addition, a prototype equipped with an advanced voice recognition system that is activated by the phrase “Hello Budd-e”. For example, you can ask the computer to do “a little bit warmer.” The system is able to distinguish the voices of different passengers, so the temperature rises in one of the cabin, where the team arrived.
The concept has received a number of autonomous control functions, including the system of fully automatic parking, which will debut on the Touareg SUV in 2017.
According to Autocar publications, Budd-e is a harbinger of a serial electric compact van, which will appear in 2018.
