Peugeot is preparing to release under its brand a new crossover – a subcompact 1008 model. France’s automaker long eschewed the popular segment of bigger cars of SUV type, and now, it seems, they can not stop developing new models. In 2013, they will begin selling the crossover based 208, and the smallest crossover Peugeot will enter the market in 2015.

The name that was chosen for the new model was based on the general principle of Peugeot: double zero was introduced in the name Peugeot 4008 – crossover, built on the basis of Mitsubishi Outlander, eight here means the current generation, and one explains that this is the most compact model in the series. The length of Peugeot 1008 will not exceed 3.7 meters. At the heart of new model will be the platform PF1, which is used in the urban crossover hatchback 208 and as a base in 2008, the appearance of which is not far off.

At the initial stage, the crossover will be available in 1008 with only one engine – a three-cylinder. Later there will be a diesel and a hybrid versions added. The date of the debut is yet open to question, though some say that in 2015. Maybe the car will be built based on the concept of a compact hybrid crossover HR1, shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2010.
