Latest Hyundai concept car should be brought to the public on March 28 at the Seoul Motor Show, hinting that the Korean automaker can enter the segment of premium coupes. As evidence, the company describes the concept HND-9, as “a modern interpretation of the classic image of the elegant sports coupe premium.” In contrast to the concept sedan Hyundai HCD-14 shown in Detroit, HND-9 has two doors that open upward.

The front and rear sides of the car have a narrow slope, while the cantilevered roof descends sharply to the small rear window. In massive wings there are huge wheels that resemble turbines. Rounded headlights and light echo add some style of the tail lights. On the inside, Hyundai has set the instrument panel at the center stack, canted to the driver.

The concept’s core is a 3.3-liter V6 engine with direct injection and turbo 365-hp output paired with 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. HND-9 has been developed in design center Hyundai R & D in Namyang, South Korea. Although HND-9 is just so far only a concept, it shows that Hyundai is interested in the development of luxury coupe. Such a model has the potential to form the basis of the next generation sedan Genesis. We’ll know more when Hyundai fully reveals its concept HND-9 in Seoul.
