At the most recent Paris Motor Show, Audi automaker has presented the concept of a new hybrid coupe Crosslane. Crosslane appears to be the first car of this great German manufacturer to be equipped with a new hybrid system with two electric motors. In addition to the two motors the car includes a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with three cylinders. Overall system output is around 177 horsepower.

The design allows the vehicle to move in different modes. So, at speeds up to 55 kilometers per hour the car uses only one motor. When driving in the sequential mode the second motor adds up and the motor acts as a generator to recharge the battery. When the speed exceeds 55 miles per hour, in order to optimize the efficiency and performance, the system activates the engine and a motor. If the arrow on the odometer rolls over the mark of 130 kilometers per hour, the main burden falls on the engine, and if this will be needed by the work and one of the motors will also be activated.

Estimated by the Audi engineers, for a ride of a total of 100 kilometers the car will need 1.2 liters of fuel (200 miles per gallon). From standstill to 100 kilometers per hour Crosslane will accelerate in 8.6 seconds (in electric mode – in 9.8 seconds).
